Colloquial terminology

This letter was published in the May 2015 Yachting monthly. Curiously, the reference to ‘Egyptian PT’ had been edited out!

I was blessed with a variety of crew during my cruise around the UK last year. During discussions on the various legs I was amused by the different expressions for taking an afternoon snooze. Bob, who had worked extensively in the Middle East called it ‘Egyptian PT’. Dave who is a retired Merchant Navy Captain called it ‘deck head inspection’ and Tom who is currently a Fleet Air Arm Sea King pilot called it ‘climbing to two feet and levelling out’.

Do the readers have any other interesting nautical colloquialisms?
